ENLIGHTENme Platform now published - highlighting urban lighting and health maps for all three ENLIGHTENme cities
One of the most important outcomes of the ENLIGHTENme knowledge-building phase is the development of a WebGIS-based multilevel platform with the aim to present evidence on the impact of lighting policies, both indoor and outdoor, on people’s health and wellbeing.

The maps present the vulnerability indices related to the four main domains identified in the project: socioeconomic, urban, lighting and health. Through the display of a set of indicators calculated at district scale, the maps reflect the understanding of the city context, for each of the three ENLIGHTENme cities: Bologna in Italy, Amsterdam in the Netherlands, and Tartu in Estonia. Where available, the information is also broken down into more detail.
The datasets represent the urban context, socio-economic data, lighting characteristics, and health status conditions mapped in the three cities with the aim to identify a shortlist of districts exposed to specific inequalities. The shortlist represented the starting point for the selection of the “target district” where the very active Urban Lighting Labs have been established and where the consortium is carrying out the innovative outdoor and indoor lighting interventions as well as the population-based study.
An open Atlas is also published together with the maps, showing some preliminary results coming from the multidisciplinary scoping review of literature, policy and best practice on light and wellbeing. The data collection is still ongoing and will be concluded towards the end of the project.
With that a key milestone has now been achieved!
