The University of Surrey (SURREY) is one of UK’s leading academic institutions providing comprehensive research and training. Human circadian rhythm and sleep research is a particular strength of SURREY which supports Chronobiology and Sleep as core investment areas. SURREY has benefitted from recent investment (£26.5M) in refurbishment of the Faculty’s bioscience research facilities, including development of facilities for human and animal chronobiology/sleep research.

Role of the institution within ENLIGHTENme

SURREY is a project partner. Members from the Chronobiology Section (Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences) will participate in the project providing its competences in rest/activity actigraphy, light measurement/monitoring and ageing research. SURREY will primarily participate in work package 3 and be involved in investigating the biological effects of indoor light supplementation and monitoring light and rest/activity rhythms in free-living older people using actigraphy and light sensor devices. SURREY will also contribute to dissemination and exploitation in work package 6 and management in work package 7.
